Rates and Progression
Experience, gold and drops run at stock rates here — respawns, trainers and crafting are where the shard actually moves faster
Updated 2026-08-17
Experience, gold and drops are stock. A kill here yields what the same kill yielded on retail Shadowbane. That is deliberate: this is a small PvE shard, meant to be played rather than sprinted through. Rates were briefly boosted when the shard opened and returned to stock in August 2026; the old 5x figures you may still see quoted are gone.
Experience, gold and drops
| Per kill | Outside a hotzone | Inside a hotzone |
|---|---|---|
| Experience | 1x | 2x |
| Gold | 1x | 2x |
| Drop chance | 1x | 2x |
Those are stock Shadowbane's own numbers, hotzone included. The gold multiplier scales the amount a kill yields, never the chance it drops gold at all; the drop multiplier scales the chance a monster's loot table produces an item, not its quality or the gear it is wearing.
Loot is rolled when a monster spawns, not when it dies, so what it carries is settled before you engage — and anything left in an unlooted corpse is destroyed and re-rolled when the server restarts. Monsters also heal 1% of their health every three seconds when out of combat, so you cannot wear a hard target down across repeated pulls.
Hotzones
One zone at a time is the hotzone, and it moves every two hours, on the hour. Only large outdoor zones qualify, never a safe zone and never a zone rated below level 10, and no zone repeats until every eligible zone has had a turn. Inside, you get the doubled numbers above plus an extra roll on each loot table and a quality band that shifts up with the monster's level, so hotzone drops are better as well as more frequent.
The catch: the rotation is never announced. No chat message fires when the hotzone moves. The only signal is the map marker you get at login, so if you are already online when it rotates you get nothing and your marker goes stale. Relogging is the one reliable way to check.
Respawns
Respawn timers run at a quarter of their normal length, with a floor of three seconds. A monster that would take two minutes to return comes back in about thirty seconds, and the handful of three-hour rares in around forty-five minutes, so camping a small spawn is nearly continuous work.
Trainers and skills
Every trainer behaves as rank 7, in NPC cities and player cities alike, so any skill it can teach goes to 215% and there is no better trainer to go find. Stock Shadowbane's best class trainer stopped at 90% in a primary skill and 70% in a mastery, while 533 of the game's 676 skill-gated drop items require 100%.
Two limits still bind. A trainer only teaches skills it holds the class rune for; rank does not make a Fighter trainer teach mage masteries. And Intelligence caps how many times you may train: 75 trains at base INT 40, rising to 96 at INT 70, so a sword skill at INT 40 tops out near 105% — short of the 32 weapons needing 110%, which base INT around 50 clears. The level cap is stock at 75, and refining is free, so a bad build is recoverable. A trainer's Upgrade button does nothing, since they are already at maximum rank — expected, not a bug.
Buying and selling
Training and shopping are not the same discount — the most mis-stated pair of numbers here. Training a skill or a power costs a quarter of the stock price; buying ordinary stock from a vendor costs half, because that path is capped. Deeds and hireling contracts sit at that same capped rate, on top of the much larger reduction covered in cities and building, and items a player-city vendor rolled itself are uncapped, at the deeper training rate. Selling to a vendor is unchanged: you still get the stock third of an item's value.
Production
Forge and vendor crafting run at half duration: a rank-1 forge produces an item in 10 minutes instead of 20, a rank-7 forge in 2 minutes 30 instead of 5, and bane scrolls halve as well (3 hours to 1 hour 30 at rank 1, 24 hours to 12 at rank 8). This covers item crafting only — mine output, construction and rank-ups are separate. One display bug: the progress bar fills about twice as fast as it should, while the countdown beside it is correct.
Death
Nothing here changes what dying costs you. There is no death or experience-loss setting on this shard and none of that code was touched, so death, corpse recovery and binding behave as they do in stock Shadowbane. We have not re-measured it in play; report anything that says otherwise.
Every live value here is listed with its setting in the settings reference.
