Quest Writs
Warrant scrolls that name a camp, count your kills there, and pay experience when you finish — the closest thing this shard has to a quest
Updated 2026-08-22
A writ is a kill contract on a scroll. It drops from the mobs in a camp, names a different camp nearby, and pays experience when you have cleared the number it asks for. It is deliberately small: there is no quest log, no turn-in NPC, and no quest giver standing in a town.
How they work
Warrant scrolls drop from mobs that belong to a camp, at a low rate — you will not be swimming in them. Each one names a target camp and a number of kills.
- Double-click a writ to read it. That tells you the camp, the count, and how far along you are.
- Kills count automatically. Anything that gives you experience for the right camp advances the writ; you do not have to do anything to "accept" it.
- It completes on the final kill and pays out there and then. The scroll is consumed.
- Progress survives logging out. It is stored against the scroll itself, not held in memory.
- One active writ per camp. You cannot stack three warrants on the same target and clear them all with one pull.
- Writs are ordinary items. You can trade one to somebody else.
Why the target is somewhere else
The camp a writ names is deliberately not the camp it dropped in. The point is to push you a little way out of wherever you were farming and give you a reason to go somewhere adjacent. If you were going to grind one spot all evening anyway, a writ is a nudge to go and look at the next one.
What it does not do
Being honest about the shape of this, because it is unusual:
- There is no quest window. The 2003 client has no quest UI and one cannot be added to it, so everything a writ tells you arrives as chat, or on the scroll when you read it.
- Notifications are deliberately quiet. You get a line when a writ arrives and a line when it completes. There is no message on every kill — that would be unbearable, and this shard has cut a feature for chat spam before.
- There is no quest history. Once a writ is done it is gone.
- The count shown on the scroll in your pack can lag behind reality between logging in and your next credited kill. The progress itself is never wrong or lost — the scroll is only the label.
Under the hood, briefly
There is no quest system on this server. A writ is an item with a row behind it, riding a stock scroll the client already knows how to draw, and the kill counter hangs off the one place experience is awarded. That is why it exists at all: every piece it needed was already there.
